God bless JSS!

Jacob was baptized this weekend, and it was a truly special day.  We've been planning his baptism since before he was born (I actually had to call the church to update their information once he was born- I had locked in our spot before we knew his gender or name and before we'd asked his Godparents!). The baptism was on Sunday afternoon and was followed by a light lunch celebration at our home.

The ceremony was sweet and short and featured six children total. The priest was funny and reminded me a lot of my parent's parish priest (which was so cool, given that he actually married Scott and me!).  Matt and Kelly (my brother and sister in law) are Jacob's godparents and it was special to participate in Jacob's first sacrament with them.

After the ceremony, we dashed back to my house to quickly put out the party food and drinks.  The theme for the party was "God bless JSS!" and the color scheme was blue and white with gold and burlap accents.  It was so fun to work on the party for my sweet boy!

My menu was sandwiches catered by Marianos, cupcakes from Oak Mill Bakery, a veggie platter, a fruit bowl, tomato/mozzarella Caprese skewers, cheese and crackers and Sunchips.  We served mimosas, beer and water.  It was a fun party!

While I definitely wanted to make a fuss with the decor and food, it was really made special by the family who came to support us - both sides of Jacob's extended family were in attendance, including all four of his grandparents, both of his aunts and all five of his uncles.

I was so overwhelmed by the efforts of my family to be in attendance.  My brother Joe flew in from Washington, DC and the rest of my family drove 4-7 hours to be with us (including the locals who cut an Iowa weekend short to be with us).  We aren't able to get together with everyone all at once very often (I think it's been only twice in the past two years - this past Thanksgiving and the previous October for Matt and Kelly's wedding!) but when we are able to it sure is sweet.

God bless JSS!  And in the words of Jacob's godfather (quoting Matthew 5:14) "you are the light of the world". We love you more than words can say.

  1. What a beautiful day! Precious Jacob is baptized...yay!

  2. I love my Godson!! Jacob's baptism was such a special day, and I was so honored to be a part of it.

(p.s. I'm finally getting caught up on your blog tonight :)
