Italy 2012: Venice - Day Three

The third morning came with no specific plans, so we wandered around the city and soaked in our last day. We found an outdoor market, and several other picturesque spots to take some last minute photos ("for Facebook" as I kept teasing Scott).

After our walk, we made our way across the city for our boat ride to three islands in the Adriatic Sea: Murano, Burano and Torcello. We started at Murano Island where we saw a demonstration on blown glass (this is what the entire island is famous for). We debated purchasing a few small items, but with our luck, they'd be broken before they were back in Chicago :)

Next it was off to Burano, famous for the bright colors of their homes and for hand made lace. We saw a lace demonstration and then had some time to walk the island.

Last was Torcello, a mostly abandoned island with the ruins of a beautiful and ancient church.  And a really cool footbridge.

That evening we were craving salad (after three days of pasta, wine and pizza!) so we found a place and ordered one - along with the biggest beers I've ever seen. (The slightly chauvinistic waiter seemed dubious when I said "make that two" after Scott ordered his - so you better believe that I finished every drop of mine).

That night we again ventured to a plaza near our hotel for our favorite Spritz drinks. I also tried my new favorite - limoncello! If you ask nicely, i may even post the slightly embarrassing, unedited video of my first sip:)

After the plaza, we sat on our hotels beautiful terrace, with panoramic views of the Grand Canal and the Rialto Bridge, and said goodbye to a wonderful time in a gorgeous and unique city.

The next morning, it was time for city #2: Florence!
